Memories came flooding back to Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, and Clwyd West MS, Darren Millar, this week when he returned to the school he attended as a teenager.
Darren visited Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan in Abergele on Friday to meet with Headteacher, Matt Wildsmith, teaching staff, and pupils. The visit follows recent positive feedback by Estyn, the schools inspectorate in Wales.
The Abergele school holds a special place in Darren’s heart, given that he completed his secondary education there.
During his visit Darren also met members of the school Senedd, Enzo (the school’s dog), and toured the school.
Speaking after his visit, Darren said:
“Visiting Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan is always a delight and a real trip down memory lane. I loved being a pupil there and I love returning.
“It is a fantastic school which is making great improvements thanks to the support of committed teachers and support staff. It was good to have a chat with the Headteacher to find out what projects they are currently working on, and challenges they are currently facing.
“We had a walk around the school, and I was pleased to meet a number of the pupils along the way, including members of the school’s Senedd. It is good to see so many young people involved in this. The pupils were keen to chat about local and national politics so Emrys ap Iwan may well produce more politicians in the future!”
