Darren Millar MS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Clwyd West, held urgent talks with Dŵr Cymru this afternoon following disruption to water supplies in Conwy and Denbighshire.
Over 40,000 households, schools, businesses, hospitals and care homes in Conwy and Denbighshire are without water after a main at Bryn Cowlyd Water Treatment Works in Dolgarrog, burst.
Crews have been working on site overnight but the company has advised that this emergency repair is difficult and dangerous, and that repairs could take up to 48 hours before water supplies are fully restored.
The company is delivering bottled water to vulnerable customers in affected areas, as well as tankering water into the network to maintain supplies at local hospitals.
Darren said:
“I am very concerned about widespread disruption to water supplies for thousands of residents in Conwy and Denbighshire.
“The issue is also affecting supply to schools, care homes, hospitals and local businesses, and I'm particularly concerned about those who are vulnerable.
“I received an urgent update from Dŵr Cymru this afternoon and have been assured that they are working flat out to restore water supplies as soon as possible, but the situation is complicated and may take some time.
“The company has contingency arrangements for hospitals and care homes, and is distributing bottled water, but I would urge all vulnerable residents to join Welsh Water's Priority Service Register via the company's website or by calling 0800 052 0145. This will ensure that help gets to them first.”
