Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Senedd and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed the review of speed limits on a number of roads in Conwy County.
The Council have used Place Criteria set out in the Welsh Government guidance to review 20mph A and B roads across the county and have now drawn up a priority list of the applicable road sections which they will be taking forwards for a full assessment.
Whilst Darren welcomes the move, he is calling on the council to complete the process as soon as possible.
He said:
“So many of our roads should never have been made 20mph in the first place, which is why the speed limit has been unpopular with the public. I therefore very much welcome this list and I know drivers in the county will too.
“However, it must be stressed that other councils have completed and implemented changes already, so sadly Conwy County Council are lagging behind. I am therefore calling on officers to complete this process as quickly as they can. The sooner these roads are reverted to 30mph the better.”
He added:
“It is madness that councils are even having to go through this process though. If this policy had been better thought out, they wouldn’t be in this position of spending more time and money on reverting so many of our roads back to 30mph. It is irresponsible of the Welsh Government to be so wasteful with taxpayers money.”
