Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is concerned about the replacement service that is to be provided to residents in Llangernyw following the recent temporary closure of the village Post Office.
The Llangernyw post office branch was forced to close on Monday 9 November 2020 due to the resignation of the Postmaster. A permanent solution is being sought, but in the interim period the Postmaster from Maesgeirchen Post Office, who operates the nearby Mobile service, has offered to provide this service in Llangernyw.
However, Darren is concerned by the limited number of hours that the mobile service will be available, with it only being open for one hour every Friday between 9am and 10am.
He said:
“I was very saddened to hear about the closure of the Llangernyw Post Office, albeit temporary, and whilst I welcome the fact that a mobile service is being made available to residents, I do not feel that one hour once a week is long enough to meets people’s needs.
“I’ve expressed my concerns to the Post Office and asked them to look at increasing the hours and to process applications for a new permanent solution via the re-establishment of the post office in the village shop as soon as possible.
“Post Offices provide a social lifeline to some of the most vulnerable in our society and it is therefore vital that we keep them open.”
The new temporary Mobile Post Office service is scheduled to commence from Friday 27 November 2020 at 9am from outside the Village Shop.
