Darren Millar, Member of the Senedd for Clwyd West, has urged the Post Office to reconsider its decision to permanently close its branch in Llangernyw.
The decision was announced on Friday, though Llangernyw Post Office had already been closed since May 14th this year, following the resignation of the branch’s postmaster.
The Post Office justified the closure on the grounds of “ensur[ing] that our funding and resources are allocated to deliver maximum benefit for all customers.”
Commenting on the announcement, Darren said:
“Those in charge need to think again before pushing ahead with the closure of this branch.
“The Post Office is an important part of the community of Llangernyw and the surrounding settlements and helps to secure the viability of the local shop, so its closure will be a significant blow for the area.
“I appreciate that all businesses must operate within their means, but this will do nothing to lessen the impact this plan will have on the community.
“Residents without access to cars will be hit particularly hard, given the nature of limited bus services to the villages with the next nearest Post Offices.
“It also seems difficult to justify closing this Post Office, when those in similar sized, or even smaller villages in the region are remaining open.”
