Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has called on the Welsh Government to tackle the many problems people in Conwy and Denbighshire are facing when reapplying for a Blue Badge and asked them to introduce a Blue Badge for life for those with deteriorating health conditions.
Darren has been contacted by constituents who are frustrated by the barriers they are facing when trying to renew their blue badge.
He has previously told Ministers in Cardiff Bay that it is “ridiculous” that people are being asked to send in photographs of their walking aids, which he pointed out could belong to anybody.
This week, he raised the matter again in the Senedd and proposing that a Blue Badge for life is implemented for all those with deteriorating health conditions.
He said:
“We know that new guidance has been issued to local authorities, but this doesn't seem to be resolving the many problems that people in my constituency are having when reapplying for their blue badges.
“Why should it be that someone with a deteriorating condition who qualified for a blue badge previously is having to continually, every few years, go back to request one? That seems to me like unnecessary bureaucracy.
“If people have a deteriorating condition, they should qualify for life.”
Responding, the Welsh Government’s Business Manager, Jane Hutt MS, said she would raise Darren’s request with the Cabinet colleagues.
