Appearing on the ITV Wales political programme ‘Sharp End’ on Monday night, Clwyd West MS and North Wales Shadow Minister Darren Millar highlighted the “huge disparity in transport investment between North and South Wales”.

Darren, who has long been calling on the Welsh Government to provide North Wales with its fair share of funding, referred to the fact that £1 billion has been invested in the South Wales Metro, when in comparison so far only £50m has been set aside for a North Wales Metro, and “we are still yet to see a rollout of that”.

Darren also referred to the disparity in funding for road projects between the north and south.

He said:

“We’ve got huge investment going into roads in South Wales, whilst we have had the cancellation of projects in North Wales that are absolutely necessary, like on the A55 trunk road. We feel totally left out in North Wales.”  

Darren also spoke about the detrimental impact of the Welsh Government’s 20mph default speed limit on bus services in his constituency, and across the rest of Wales.

He stressed the importance of regular bus services, particularly in rural areas, but said they are being slashed largely because of the reduced speed limit.
