Commenting on the announcement by the UK Conservative Government on funding allocations for Welsh transport connectivity, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for North Wales, Darren Millar MS said:
“The Labour Welsh Government have prioritised projects in South Wales for too long, this unprecedented level of funding for North Wales connectivity will go a long way to addressing the disparity.
“The UK Conservative Government clearly understand the needs of North Wales far better than the Cardiff Bay based Labour Government.”
Welsh Conservative Shadow Transport Minister, Natasha Asghar MS said:
“This is spectacular news for the people of Wales. This funding is welcome and builds on the Prime Minister’s substantial commitments.
“While the Labour Government impose their anti-motorist agenda on Wales while underfunding public transport, the UK Conservative Government are delivering much needed Welsh transport connectivity improvements.”
For Welsh connectivity, the UK Conservative Government are:
- Providing an unprecedented £1 billion investment to fund the electrification of the North Wales Main Line, bringing parts of North Wales within an hour of Manchester and bringing more punctual and reliable journeys on the 105-mile route between Crewe and Holyhead, with connections to Liverpool, Warrington and Wrexham.
- Delivering the Midlands Rail Hub in full, with investment increased to £1.75 billion to improve journey times, increase capacity and boost frequency of services, benefitting those travelling between Cardiff and Birmingham.
- Providing £2.7 million to Transport for Wales to develop options for upgrades to the South Wales Main Line, including new stations between Cardiff and the Severn Tunnel and increased services between Bristol and West Wales.
- Providing £700,000 to Transport for Wales to study options for upgrading Shotton and Chester stations and increasing capacity on the North Wales Main Line.
