Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has called for the Welsh Government to reverse its decision to change the national speed limit in built up areas.
The speed limit was reduced from 30 mph to 20 mph from Sunday but a petition calling for the Welsh Government to 'rescind and revoke the 20 mph law' has now gathered more than 350,000 signatures. The largest in the Senedd's history.
Darren Millar, who consistently voted against the speed limit change, said:
"It is abundantly clear from this record-breaking petition that there is a huge public outcry against the reduction in the default speed limit in built up areas.
"While people have no problem with speed limit reductions in places such as accident hotspots and stretches of road near schools, hospitals, children's play areas and other busy pedestrian areas, the blanket approach taken by the Welsh Government has gone way too far.
"Ministers must reflect on the huge scale of the opposition to their speed limit changes, reverse the national speed limit change and adopt a more proportionate and common sense approach that doesn't slow down traffic unnecessarily in places where there is a very low risk of an accident."
