Commenting on a report by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) outlining challenges with the management of patient flow at Wrexham Maelor Hospital’s Emergency Department, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for North Wales, Darren Millar MS said:

“Once again, we see another example of the people of North Wales being neglected by the Cardiff Bay bubble.

“Not only do we have some of the worst A&E waiting times in the country, but we have some of the least safe hospital buildings with only 62% of buildings at Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board being considered “operationally safe”, putting the safety of patients and staff at risk.

“Labour ministers need to drastically rethink their priorities and provide the healthcare services that the people of North Wales deserve.”

Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Health, Russell George MS said:

“It is clear from this report that our hardworking healthcare workers are being let down by the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay.

“As a result of Labour’s failings, patients across Wales are suffering from the worst A&E waiting times on record with over a third of patients having to wait over the four-hour target to be seen in A&E last month.

“Labour ministers need to accept the fact that these pressures are a direct result of a quarter of a century of Labour’s atrocious mismanagement, and it is they who are putting both staff and patients at risk.”
