Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is thrilled that two businesses in his constituency, who he nominated in the Countryside Alliance Wales ‘Rural Oscars’, have both won awards.
Chilly Cow have been awarded Best Local Food and Drink Champion for Wales 2023, whilst Moel Famau Donkeys were Highly Commended in the Rural Enterprise Category.
Darren said:
“I am absolutely thrilled that Denbighshire businesses have been so successful in these prestigious awards.
“They really are the leading rural business awards to win. Operating across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland they celebrate the very best of rural produce and community.
“I nominated both Chilly Cow and Moel Famau Donkeys after visiting both businesses last year. I was very impressed with what they both had to offer and the role they play in attracting people to this beautiful part of North Wales.
“I am delighted that the Countryside Alliance have recognised the fantastic work they are doing and I look forward to vising them again some time soon to congratulate them all in person.”
Established in 2014, Chilly Cow has gone from strength to strength each year and although still a small business, it is well established in North Wales and loved by locals and visitors alike.
The business is committed to the community and local trade, supporting local businesses and charities where possible and being an active member of The Clwydian Range Food and Drink Group – which promotes other local producers, businesses and our fantastic landscape and area.
Having resided on the slope of Moel Famau for three generations, lockdown provided the Davies family with a chance to pause and reflect on the importance that the countryside plays in people’s lives, and as a result they opened Moel Famau Donkeys (www.moelfamaudonkeys.co.uk).
Denbighshire experienced further success with Daniel Morris of Denbigh winning Best Butcher.
The winners of the Welsh final will go on to represent Wales at the House of Lords in the national champions’ reception in May.
