Clwyd West MS Darren Millar visited Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Emergency Department last week to find out more about work being carried out to improve services for patients.
Darren met with senior leaders and frontline staff to discuss actions being taken to make the service more efficient.
Speaking after the visit, he said:
“Like all emergency departments in Wales, the A&E at Glan Clwyd Hospital is under huge pressure and staff are working flat out to do their best for those they care for and address concerns raised by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales earlier this year.
“It was good to speak directly with the staff and get a real understanding of the issues they are facing.
“The simple fact of the matter is, the department is over stretched.
“The promised North Denbighshire Community Hospital would have eased the pressures they are facing and provided many of my constituents with the modern healthcare facilities they require and deserve, but the Welsh Government have dragged their heels for the past 13 years and this promised facility is now at risk of not going ahead. This is unfair to the people of North Wales and unfair to the staff working at Glan Clwyd’s A&E department.
“The new hospital is desperately needed and the Welsh Government should be prioritising it.”
