Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed today’s announcement that recycling centres in Conwy and Denbighshire will be reopening recycling centres from next week.

The centres were closed eight weeks ago in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in recyclable waste building up in people’s homes and an increase in incidents of fly tipping.

Two weeks ago, Darren called for them to be reopened and said he was confident that they could be without people’s health being put in jeopardy. He is therefore pleased by today’s news from Conwy County Borough Council and Denbighshire County Council that they will be reopen from May 26th.   

He said:

“This is great news and will be welcomed by many in both Conwy and Denbighshire.

“Eights weeks is a long time to be without such a facility and it has been terribly frustrating for residents, particularly given that many have spent their time in lockdown doing DIY and clearing things out.

“Rubbish has been mounting in people’s homes and there has been an increase in incidents of fly tipping.

“The reopening on these centres next week can’t come soon enough. However, they are likely to be extremely busy when they do reopen, particularly in the first few days, and I therefore urge those who have the space in their homes to store the waste, to wait a little longer before making a trip to the recycling centre.”
