Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has reaffirmed his support for Conservative Party leadership candidate Boris Johnson after catching up with him at an event on the English-Welsh border last Friday night.
Conservative Party supporters attended the Lion Quays Hotel in Gobowen to hear from the former Mayor of London during his leadership race.
Darren was joined by Conservative representatives from both Clwyd West and the Vale of Clwyd.
At the event, which had been organised by the Back Boris campaign team in conjunction with Clwyd West MP, David Jones, Mr Johnson gave an impassioned speech before taking questions from the floor.
Speaking afterwards Darren said:
“I came out in support of Boris several weeks ago, but hearing from him at this event confirmed that I have picked the right candidate to back.
“He had a fire in his belly and a message of hope on his lips. The country is in very choppy waters and I have every confidence that Boris can get us out.
“As I have said previously, Boris is a good friend of Wales and a formidable force in British politics. Not only is he a hugely popular figure among Conservative grassroots, but he’s an ardent campaigner with a track record that demonstrates his ability to win elections and gain support from people in all walks of life.
“We need a Prime Minister who respects the outcome of the EU referendum in 2016 and is absolutely committed and capable of delivering Brexit. Boris is definitely the right person for the job.”
A hustings will take place in Wales in Cardiff on Saturday and voting papers are being issued to members from later this week.
