Clwyd West AM Darren Millar this week hosted the second St David’s Parliamentary Prayer Event and Exhibition for Wales.

Welsh Government representatives, Welsh Assembly Members, leaders from throughout Wales, international guests and others, including Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda, flocked in Cardiff yesterday to share in the spirit of prayer and thanksgiving for the nation of Wales and its rich Christian heritage.

The theme for this year’s event  was ‘Wales in the World’.

“Last year’s event was hugely successful and proved to be a fantastic way to celebrate St David’s Day. As the Assembly was in recess on St David’s Day itself this year, we hosted this year’s event a week later.   

“The event featured the amazing Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda, an exhibition on Welsh missionaries by the National Library of Wales and an address by Welsh historian and former BBC correspondent Jon Gower, who told the story of Welsh missionary to Korea, Robert Jermain Thomas, who was martyred on arrival in Korea in August 1866. Immediately before his death he gave a Bible to his executioner which was the means of the conversion of the first Christians on the Korean Peninsula. South Korea now has one of the highest church attendance rates in the world and boasts the largest church in the world, the Yoido Full Gospel Church, with an estimated 830,000 in attendance each week.

“I  would like to thank all those who travelled from far and wide to attend this year’s event, particularly the Watoto Children’s Choir who ensured proceedings got off to a flying start!”

The event also included speeches by the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford AM, and the Assembly’s Presiding Officer, Elin Jones AM.
