Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed the completion of the £18m neonatal care unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan that will care for sick and premature newborn babies from across North Wales.
The decision to build the new centre followed protests involving thousands of people who took to the streets as a result of plans to axe consultant led maternity services in 2015.
Darren said:
“The many thousands of people who signed petitions and marched on the streets to protect our maternity and baby care services will be thrilled to know that this unit is finally operational.
“There are so many bad news stories about our NHS in North Wales, but this is something we can all celebrate.
“Every child deserves the very best start in life and this facility will help to deliver just that.”
The unit now has a full complement of cots and the addition of the dedicated parent’s area with facilities for mums and newborn babies to stay together during treatment.
