With Conwy County Borough Council having received consent from the Welsh Government to dismantle Colwyn Bay’s Victoria Pier last week, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is calling on them to act swiftly to arrange for its dismantling and to continue to work with the Colwyn Bay Victoria Pier Trust.
The Listed Building Consent from the Welsh Government, which was granted by the Welsh Government on October 6th, allows the Council to dismantle the structure and redevelop a truncated pier.
The Pier has been closed since 2008 and began to collapse in February.
Darren said:
“Many people will have fond memories of the pier and it will be sad to say goodbye to this longstanding feature on the Colwyn Bay promenade, but it’s condition in recent years has deteriorated significantly and detracted from the regeneration of the town.
“I trust that Conwy County Borough Council will now act swiftly to arrange for the dismantling of the pier and work with the Colwyn Bay Victoria Pier Trust to ensure that important heritage items are protected during the process.”
