Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has welcomed news that an Abergele group is among 62 organisations in Wales set to benefit from the latest round of funding from the National Lottery.

This month organisations across Wales were awarded £247,987 in grants from the National Lottery Awards for All programme run by the Big Lottery Fund.

Many of the projects will improve access to the outdoors for young people with grants for improving playgrounds and adding state of the art exercise equipment while others offer opportunities to learn new skills.

Menter Iaith, Abergele, are among those who will benefit. They will receive a grant of £2,775 to deliver a series of activities for school pupils and families to promote the Welsh language in the local community. The grant will fund transport costs, sessional worker fees, a silent disco system, and administration and marketing cost.

“I was very pleased to hear that Menter Iaith in Abergele are to benefit from this latest round of funding. They do fantastic work promoting the use of Welsh in the area and this additional money will enable them to build on this work.

“All these awards are only made possible because people buy tickets for the National Lottery, with a percentage of the ticket sales set aside to fund grants like these, and I would therefore urge people to continue supporting the Lottery.”

Awards for All will be increasing the maximum grants size to £10,000, with a quicker application process of 3 months and a widened scope of community, health, educational and environmental projects that we’ll be able to fund, and People & Places will be offering grants of between £10,001 and £500,000, and focusing on spreading funds across the lengths and breadth of Wales through simple and quicker applications of between 3 and 8 months (down from 12 months).”
