Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has praised a health partnership in his constituency following a recent visit at which he heard from people whose lives it has benefitted.
The Colwyn Bay Health Care and Well-being Precinct at Parc Eirias is a partnership between Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Conwy County Borough Council and the Welsh Rugby Union.
It aims to improve the health of people living in Conwy through community based physical activity. This can be to prevent ill health, manage chronic illnesses, or form part of rehabilitation programmes.
The initiative was developed in response to a number of issues including reducing budgets, increasing demand for physiotherapy services, a lack of space in hospital for the intermediate care team to work in, and a growing recognition of the contribution physical activity can make to a range of health conditions.
Darren recently visited to hear more about the services available there.
He said:
“The health precinct concept has created a place where health and social care professionals can work together to provide appropriate solutions for local people and it is proving to be a huge success.
“During my visit I met Bill Hunt, a client whose life has been transformed as a result of the support of the services there. He has been so impressed that he is now acts as an Ambassador for the them.”
During his visit Darren also met John Hardy, Conwy County Borough Council Section Head: Active and Creative Lifestyles, Glynne Roberts, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Programme Director - Well North Wales BCUHB, Gareth Evans, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Area Director Clinical Services, Central Area, and Mark Richards, Conwy County Borough Council Disability Sport Wales.
Darren added: “This project is now firmly established and has won a number of awards. It is a great example of excellent partnership work and has proved so successful that the health board has plans to expand the initiative throughout North Wales in the future. I want to congratulate all those involved in this fantastic initiative.”
