Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar got to see a number of precious historic bibles when he visited the National Library of Wales this week.
Darren made the visit to the Aberystwyth landmark yesterday with local AM for the area, Elin Jones AM.
He said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, the Library is an incredible place and I would recommend those who haven’t already been to include it on their list of places they must visit.
“While I was there I saw some of the precious historic bibles in its archive, including the scorched bible of the famous Welsh Revivalist Evan Roberts, who was the catalyst of a nationwide religious awakening in Wales in 1904 that transformed the country. The bible was damaged in a pit explosion in the Broadoak Colliery in South Wales where the 19 year old Evan was working in 1897. He believed that God had saved his life during the tragedy for a purpose.”
The National Library of Wales is the biggest library in Wales, holding over 6.5 million books and periodicals, and the largest collections of archives, portraits, maps and photographic images in Wales. It is also home to the national collection of Welsh manuscripts, the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, and the most comprehensive collection of paintings and topographical prints in Wales.
