A seven-year-old Abergele girl is celebrating this week after her Christmas Card design really took off.    

Evelyn Kirkham of Ysgol Sant Elfod has been awarded first prize in Clwyd West AM Darren Millar’s official Christmas card competition.  

The theme this year’s competition,  which was open to schools in Conwy and Denbighshire, was 'Christmas in Space',  inspired by British astronaut Tim Peake.

Evelyn’s design  included a Christmas tree shaped rocket with Santa, rocketing past the various planets.

Darren said:

“Yet again I received hundreds of entries and the standard for this year’s competition was outstanding.  I would like to thank all the children who obviously spent so much time and effort on their designs, but obviously there has to be a winner and I really loved Evelyn’s design. I think the achievements of Tim Peake this year have really fuelled youngster’s interest in space and I was pleased to be able to present Evelyn with a book about space signed by the astronaut himself.

“Evelyn’s winning entry has been sent out to hundreds of people who, I am sure, will appreciate as much as me her impressive artwork.”
