Clwyd West AM Darren Millar will this week be presenting the Welsh Government with a petition signed by more than 1000 people who are campaigning for the restoration of Colwyn Bay Pier.
The petition was handed over to Darren by the Colwyn Victoria Pier Trust on Friday evening.
Darren said:
“The Trust has made a bid for a grant to the Heritage Lottery Fund to secure the future of the pier and is fighting against proposals by Conwy County Borough Council to demolish the historic structure.
“Demolition cannot take place without the go ahead from Welsh Government Ministers and the petition calls upon them to refuse permission.”
As well as Darren’s support, the Trust is also being backed by Colwyn Town Council and Clwyd West MP David Jones MP.
Darren added:
“The pier has been an eyesore on the waterfront in Colwyn Bay for far too long and is letting the town’s regeneration efforts down, but given the importance of the pier to the heritage of Colwyn Bay and the prominent position it has on the local waterfront, it would be wrong to steam ahead with plans for demolition without exploring alternatives.
“I will present the petition to the Welsh Government this week.”
