Shadow Health Minister and Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has praised the new Critical Care Unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital after visiting the “impressive” new facility last week.
The new unit brings together intensive care, high dependency and recovery units, which are interlinked with the operating theatres to create a smoother “flow” for patients and staff throughout the hospital.
During his visit Darren met with staff on the unit and saw the improved facilities which are part of the ongoing refurbishment of the hospital estate.
Darren said:
“I was extremely impressed by the new 16 bed unit at Glan Clwyd, which has gone from being one of the smallest in Wales to one of the biggest, and also by the dedication of those I met.
“The unit is designed to reduce the risk of infection and has facilities for kidney dialysis and patients who need to be in isolation cubicles. It is close to the eleven modern operating theatres and the two recovery areas and will support patients brought to Glan Clwyd from across North Wales for specialist treatment, such as coronary intervention following heart attacks, and patients having major head and neck cancer operations.
“During my visit I had a chance to see the new state-of-the-art technology which is available for the staff to use to care for patients which will ensure they receive more effective care. All the staff at Glan Clwyd do a tremendous job and after all the disruption of recent months they can now get on with their jobs in an environment which meets their needs as well as those of their patients.”
