Clwyd West AM Darren Millar is delighted that yesterday’s election has resulted in a hat trick of Welsh Conservative MPs for North Wales.
It was an incredible night for the Welsh Conservatives, and particularly in North Wales where the biggest victory was seen in the Vale Clwyd with Dr James Davies snatching a seat held by Labour for 18 years.
In what Labour sources described as a “massive surprise” the standing MP since 1997 Chris Ruane, lost to James by 237 votes.
Meanwhile the former Welsh Secretary David Jones retained Clwyd West with a comfortable majority, securing 43% of the votes, and Guto Bebb retained his Aberconwy seat, increasing his majority from 3,398 in the 2010 General Election to 3,999.
Darren said:
“It has been an amazing 24 hours and I am absolutely delighted by the Conservatives’ success in North Wales.
“David and Guto have already done fantastic work over the years and with James now joining the team they will be unstoppable.
“I have known James for many years and he will be a great MP for the area. The Vale of Clwyd will benefit greatly from some fresh blood. I wish them all the best and look forward to working with them to achieve the best outcomes for the people of North Wales.”
