Clwyd West AM Darren Millar joined Minister for Natural Resources, Alun Davies AM, on a visit to Kinmel Bay on Friday to assess storm and flood damage after Thursday’s weather.
The Minister met with residents, local councillors, and representatives from Conwy County Borough Council to discuss the events and walked around the Sandy Cove estate where a number of homes were flooded.
He also saw some of the damage caused to caravans on the Golden Sands Holiday Park.
Darren said:
"Having lived through the devastating floods in Towyn in 1990, the scenes that I saw on Thursday unfolding in Kinmel Bay and Rhyl brought all of those horrific memories back.
“It was awful to see homes and businesses flooded yet again, but I want to pay tribute to the response of the emergency services and volunteers who did their best to help those who were affected.
“Having spoken to residents and businesses, it is clear that there are a number of concerns regarding the adequacy of the flood warning system in Kinmel Bay and the lack of information which was available to locals regarding evacuation procedures and places of safe refuge.
“The flood defences also need to be looked at to ensure that they are up to the job and that residents can be confident they have the protection they deserve. “I will be following these issues up with the Welsh Government and others to see that they are addressed.”
