Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has commended a scheme of work to alleviate flood risk in a Conwy village where homes and businesses have been hit by floods three times in the past five years.
Llanfairtalhaiarn was last affected in the devastating North Wales floods of last November, with homes and businesses in the village ruined.
Since that time Natural Resources Wales have completed a scheme of work to alleviate flood risk, including IPP's (Individual Personal Protection) for homes and businesses, new screens at the top of Nant Barog to catch debris and prevent blockages in the culvert which protects the village from flooding, and improvements to the flood defences at the lower end of Nant Barog. Further proposals to reduce flood risk further are also under development.
This week Darren met with representatives of Natural Resources Wales to see the work already undertaken and hear more about the work planned for the village.
He said:
"Last year’s floods were devastating for those affected and it’s important that action is taken to prevent a similar event in the future.
"I’m very pleased with what has been achieved so far and look forward to further I improvements in the future.
"The residents and business people of Llanfair TH have suffered much over the past five years, so it is reassuring to know that action is being taken to prevent them falling victim again."
