The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Senedd, Darren Millar MS, was put under the spotlight this week when young people from across Wales fired questions at him over Zoom.
Darren took part in the Digital Dialogue: Wales programme, delivered by the Politics Project, which works across the UK to connect schools and young people with their elected representatives through video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Teams.
Young people from Ysgol Bro Preseli, Crymych, Ysgol Dinas Bran , Llangollen, NPTC Colleges and Pembrokeshire College, joined the call and asked Darren, who became Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Senedd before Christmas, an array of questions relating to his role and politics in general.
Speaking afterwards, Darren said:
“Throughout my time in politics I have always spoken of the importance of engaging our young people in politics.
“Over the years, I have caried out countless visits to schools in my constituency, in fact I will be returning to my old secondary school in Abergele this week to speak to pupils there. However, in the digital era that we live in, it is now even easier to have a conversation with our young people.
“As Leader of the Welsh Conservative, I need to engage with students, not just in my constituency of Clwyd West, but, across the whole of Wales and the Digital Dialogue is an ideal way of doing this without clocking up thousands of miles.
“At Monday’s session, I connected with young people from schools and colleges from various parts of Wales. They asked me some great questions and I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with them.
“I am confident that at the end of the session they all had a greater understanding of the Senedd, what Members of the Senedd do, and the decisions that we make that impact them. I was really impressed at the way that they engaged, and I look forward to taking part in more of these Digital Dialogue sessions in the future.”
