Clwyd West Assembly Member, Darren Millar, and Shadow Education Minister, Angela Burns AM, have praised Colwyn Bay’s Welsh Mountain Zoo for its excellent educational programs following a weekend visit to the popular North Wales tourist attraction.
During their visit Darren and Angela met staff and were shown the learning resources on offer at the zoo, which are regularly updated to accommodate all ages and abilities from nursery to KS4 and college students to OAP’s.
Darren said:
"It is always a pleasure to visit the Welsh Mountain Zoo which continues to go from strength to strength. It is a fantastic tourist attraction here in North Wales and the fact that visitors of all ages can learn so much from the educational programs on offer during a fun day out is an added bonus.
"The zoo offer Zoo Trails and Education Packs which take the effort out of planning a visit and also have a variety of printed resources for use in school or at the Zoo and what is really great is that the services of the Education Department come at no extra charge to your visit.
"The schoolroom can seat a maximum of 30 and is full of interesting and educational displays, including crocodile skins, turtles and a lion’s foot and the department has its own collection of animals which are used in the teaching sessions to bring the subjects alive."
Angela added:
"I was extremely impressed with the learning facilities on offer at the Welsh Mountain Zoo and the fact that all of the resources have been designed to cover aspects of the National Curriculum. I commend the hard work and dedication of all the staff responsible for providing such a great learning environment for people of all ages."
