Schools in Conwy could receive an additional £42.7 million over the next three years and schools in Denbighshire £41.9 million, if the Welsh Government act on the calls of the Welsh Conservatives.
Following the UK Conservative Government’s spending announcement which will see an extra £1.24 billion for the Welsh Labour Government, Welsh Conservatives have created localised school funding graphics per local authority area to put pressure on the Welsh Government to spend the extra money directly on primary and secondary schools, as is the case in England, but which the Welsh Government do not have to do in Wales.
Due to years of Welsh Labour underfunding, the financial situation for schools across Wales has become critical, leaving schools in Conwy and Denbighshire struggling to make ends meet. The Welsh Government has continually underfunded the local authorities in Wales, and this year Conwy County Borough Council experienced the highest percentage cut across Wales.

“The money is there and the schools desperately need it, it would be absolutely outrageous if the Welsh Government don’t take this opportunity to invest it in our schools.
“Pupils in Wales are underfunded by the Welsh Labour Government by £645 per pupil compared to pupils in England and this gap can only get wider with the funding in England going directly to schools. It is therefore paramount that those in power do the right thing and invest this money in our schools and give our children the education they deserve and need to succeed it life.
“It saddens me greatly that for years children in Wales have been greatly disadvantaged. We can not continue failing our young people, they should not be penalised because of the country in which they live.
“Both Conwy and Denbighshire Schools have been underfunded for years, it is therefore high time that the Welsh Labour Government take the decisive action that our young people need and give both primary and secondary schools the funding they deserve.”
