The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies AM, has backed Clwyd West AM Darren Millar in calling for investment in flood defences along the Old Colwyn waterfront.
Mr Davies visited the Bay of Colwyn yesterday to discuss the need for improvements to the defences with Conwy County Borough Council.
The meeting was arranged by Darren, who has long been calling for improvements along the stretch, and attended by Old Colwyn County Borough Councillor Cheryl Carlisle.
Darren said:
“I am really grateful to Andrew for making the time to visit Colwyn Bay to discuss the need for these vital works.
“Whilst improvements to flood defences in the Bay of Colwyn have improved as part of the major waterfront investment, Old Colwyn's defences, which help to protect the A55 trunk road and the Chester to Holyhead railway, have remained extremely vulnerable having taken severe batterings by winter storms and erosion in recent years.
"The failure of these defences could have catastrophic consequences, not only for North Wales transport infrastructure, but also the tourism industry in this area. It is something that needs addressing.”
Andrew RT Davies added:
“Old Colwyn flood defences are in desperate need of investment and I will be doing everything within my power to ensure that the Welsh Government takes the action Darren has been calling for to ensure that improvements are made to give local people peace of mind and to protect vital infrastructure.”
