Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar AM has praised the new Emergency Quarter (EQ) at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital after visiting the "impressive" new facility last week.
The new department is part of the £89.9m redevelopment of the Bodelwyddan hospital and replaces the former A&E, which was struggling to cope with demand.
The new department has more staff and is 75% bigger, making it a more pleasant environment for patients and staff.
Darren said:
"I very much welcome the opening of this extremely impressive facility which will improve the working environment for staff and provide better services for patients.
"The old A&E department had been struggling to meet demand for many years which had made life difficult for the staff. I am so pleased they have at last got the working environment they need and deserve.
"I very much enjoyed my visit and would like to thank all the wonderful staff who took time out of their busy schedules to show me around. They all said what a massive morale booster the new department has been.
"All the staff at Glan Clwyd do a tremendous job and after all the disruption of recent months they can now get on with their jobs in an environment which meets their needs as well as those of their patients."
