Shadow Minister for North Wales and Chair of the Senedd’s Cross-Party Group on Armed Forces and Cadets paid a visit to the VC (Veterans and Community) Hub in Connah’s Quay last week and presented them with a cheque for their latest venture.
During his visit on Friday, Darren met with volunteers and veterans and handed over a cheque for £3,000 on behalf of SSAFA to assist with the establishment of their new café, Caffinaafi.
Darren said:
“As Chair of the Cross-Party Group on the Armed Forces and Cadets in the Senedd, it was a pleasure to visit the VC Hub in Connah’s Quay and to present a cheque of £3,000 on behalf of SSAFA to help with their fantastic new cafe.
“They have created a sustainable long-term resource for veterans and the community in Deeside which is worthy of much praise and I enjoyed meeting with the volunteers and veterans to learn more about the Hub and what they hope to achieve in the future.”
A spokesperson for VC Hub said:
“What we thought was an informal visit from Darren Millar MS, Chair of the Cross-Party Group on the Armed Forces and Cadets in the Senedd, turned out to be the formal presentation of a cheque for £3,000 donated by the awesome team at SSAFA Clwyd.
“Without doubt, this money is received with heartfelt thanks and will make a massive difference to all of us here at the VC Hub, and more importantly to our community.
“We have worked tirelessly over the last six months to develop Caffinaafi as our not-for-profit Caffi space. This funding will help us to open Caffinaafi to all and promote and develop the VC Hub’s activities and events programme for veterans.”
