Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has spoken of his concern that a second GP surgery in Colwyn Bay has handed in its notice to end its NHS contract.
Drs Murphy and Weis of Rysseldene Surgery have given notice to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board that they will be terminating their contract on 30th November 2017.
The news follows the closure of Rashmi Surgery in Old Colwyn at the beginning of this year.
Rysseldene shares premises with Rhoslan surgery in a brand new purpose built primary care centre which opened last year.
Darren said:
“Wales is losing GPs left right and centre and I am deeply concerned that North Wales is seeing more and more terminating their NHS contracts. The news about Rysseldene comes hot on the heels of the closure of in the Rashmi surgery earlier this year so this announcement will be very troubling for residents in the Colwyn Bay area.
“The British Medical Association have been warning since 2014 that General Practice in North Wales is in crisis, yet the Welsh Government has not taken enough action to address this and in the meantime it is the patients who are suffering.
“Convenient access to healthcare from GPs and other primary care professionals is key to the future of the Welsh NHS and is vital that the Welsh Government recognises this and takes immediate action to address the crisis we are facing here in North Wales.
"I've requested a meeting with the local health board to discuss the situation."
The Health Board has stated it is working closely with Rysseldene to plan how their patients will continue to get the local services that they need from the 1st December 2017 onwards. Normal services will continue to be available as usual from now until the end of November 2017.
