Concerns have been raised over the suitability of accommodation at a Denbighshire primary school.

Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has written to Denbighshire County Council to ask for immediate action to address issues with mobile classrooms and facilities at Ysgol Pen Barras in Ruthin.

Darren visited the school, which has much of its teaching accommodation provided by mobile classrooms, last week with newly elected Denbighshire Councillor, Hugh Williams of Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd.

During the visit Darren met with Huw Thomas of ‘Cyfeillion Pen Barras’ a local campaign for improved facilities at Ysgol Pen Barras.

Speaking after the visit Darren said,

"Ysgol Pen Barras is a fantastic school but teachers and pupils achieve high standards in spite of the poor quality accommodation on site.

"It cannot be acceptable that pupils in 21st century Wales are being educated in rotting classrooms. Pupils should not have to face a dash through the rain to access toilets, nor should they be eating lunch in their classrooms due to inadequate canteen facilities.

"If we want 'A grade' pupils then we ought to provide 'A grade' facilities."
