Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is encouraging parents in Lysfaen to attend a public meeting he has organised regarding Conwy County Borough Council’s decision to withdraw free home to school transport for learners from the village wishing to access Ysgol Bryn Elian.
Darren believes that the local authority's decision is flawed and has therefore arranged to hold a joint public meeting with Llysfaen Community Council this Thursday, 15th August, at 6:30pm at Llysfaen Village Hall, LL29 8SS.
Last month he described the plans to axe the home to school transport as “totally unacceptable” and said it would pose a significant challenge to local families.
Commenting following the announcement of the cuts, he said:
“Many will be left struggling to find and fund alternative arrangements, particularly given the lack of capacity of local bus services.
“The route between Llysfaen and Ysgol Bryn Elian is not straight forward and poses hazards, particularly in inclement weather given the topography of the route, and lack of a pedestrian crossing on Llanelian Road.
“While I appreciate the local authority is having to consider the budget implications of home to school transport arrangements, this is clearly the wrong decision.”
Encouraging people to attend this week’s public meeting he said:
“I have extended an invitation to Conwy County Borough Council to send a representative to attend the meeting, listen to local concerns, and explain the local authority's position, and answer any questions that may arise.
““It is important that parents make their views known and air their concerns. People power has reversed local authority decisions in the past and I am hopeful that with a good turnout we can persuade Conwy County Council to review this decision.”
