A campaign to improve pedestrian access to the new medical centre in Abergele has met with success after the installation of new footpath and bridge by Conwy County Borough Council.
A new footpath has been constructed through Eldon Drive making it safer and easier for people wanting to access the Gwrych Medical Centre on the North Wales Business Park. Patients wanting to walk to the medical centre had previously faced a long walk along the busy Abergele to Llanddulas road, with no passing places for wheelchairs or mobility scooters, to get to see their GP.
The work was undertaken following a campaign led by Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar.
Darren said:
"I’ve been calling on the Council to improve pedestrian access to the medical centre for a number of years now so I’m delighted that this footpath is finally in place.
"Whilst it has been a long time coming, the highways department have done a good job and the footbridge and new path are easily accessible for those with mobility problems.
"Getting to the North Wales Business Park is now much safer than it was when the medical centre first opened its doors, especially for those who choose to walk to there for work and medical appointments."
He added, "It should not have taken so long for the footpath to be installed and it is regrettable that the local authority did not have the foresight to do it prior to the medical centre being opened."
