Denbighshire residents turned out in force yesterday to attend a public meeting to discuss problems with access to high speed broadband in the area.

The meeting, organised by Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar, in The Old Schoolroom,Llanarmon yn Iâl, on Thursday morning was packed, in spite of the cold temperatures and the time of the day it was held.

The meeting was chaired by Darren and attended by Denbighshire County Councillor Martyn Holland, representatives from BT/Openreach and the Welsh Government Minister responsible for Broadband.

Darren said:

“The fact that so many people turned out in the cold weather and there was standing room only shows just how desperate residents and businesses are to resolve this issue.

“They complained of poor internet speeds, broken promises on the rollout of high speed services, and the impact of these on their ability to take advantage of online services, business and education opportunities.

“It was a very productive meeting and I would like to thank the Minister and BT/Openreach for attending and listening to the concerns of my constituents. I would also like to thank the residents themselves who came out in the extremely cold weather to air their views. Hopefully we can now all work together to provide residents with the broadband and telephone services they need.”

Denbighshire Councillor Martyn Holland, said:

“Access to decent broadband speeds is becoming more and more essential for households and businesses whether based in urban or rural communities. It is vital that BT/Openreach do everything possible to improve the rollout of these services in the area.”
