Clwyd West Assembly Member Darren Millar has welcomed news that charities in his constituency have been awarded grants in Hanfod Cymru’s second round of small grants.

Hanfod Cymru is the charity which distributes grants to other charities across Wales in the areas of culture and art, education (beyond the statutory sphere) and social welfare.

The funding for the grants they distribute comes from Loteri Cymru – the society lottery launched earlier this year, with the specific purpose of raising funds for charities across Wales, but which also offers prizes of up to £25,000 with the draw show broadcast on S4C at 8pm every Friday evening.

In Clwyd West both Menter Bro Aled and Cylch Meithrin Ti a Fi Rhuthun are to benefit.

“I am very pleased to hear that charities in my constituency are to benefit from these grants from Hanfod Cymru. Both groups do fantastic work and it is great that they are being supported.

“Menter Bro Aled has received a grant to hold an IT course for adults and Cylch Meithrin Ti a Fi Rhuthun has received a grant to buy a CD player and Welsh CD’s for the Cylch.”

20% of the profit from Loteri Cymru ticket sales is transferred directly to Hanfod Cymru, so that they can distribute this money to other charities, with the decision on which applications from charities to support being made by the Board members of Hanfod Cymru (which is entirely independent of Loteri Cymru).
