A new bus service has been introduced in Abergele following calls from Clwyd West AM Darren Millar.
Darren asked for an added loop of the Bryn Twr/Bryn Helyg/Bryn Onnen route on the number 21 Llew Jones bus which will allow elderly residents living on the estate to use the bus without having to walk a long distance to the stop.
Conwy County Borough Council have agreed to trial a ‘stop on request’ service along this loop, until the new bus timetable in 2014. The bus will pick up at 10.27am to go to Tesco Abergele and then pick up from Tesco at 11.42am.
Darren, who promoted the new route by going for a ride on the bus with Abergele Cllr Tim Rowlands, said:
‘I'm delighted that Conwy County Borough Council responded positively to my requests.
"A walk to the bus stop was quite an ordeal for many of the elderly residents living on the estate
"The new service is much more convenient, will encourage use of public transport and help to promote independence."
Cllr Rowlands added: "'I very much welcome this new route. There are a large number of elderly and vulnerable residents in the Abergele area who rely on bus services to get around and it is crucial that services meet their needs."
