Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has paid a visit to a North Wales Mosque he reached out to following the appalling anti-Muslim rhetoric, hate fuelled violence and attacks against and near mosques in the UK in the summer.
Back in August, Darren wrote to the Muslin Council of Wales to show his support for the Muslim community in light of the anti-Muslim sentiment across the UK, and last Friday he was pleased to visit the Canolfan Iman Mosque in Llandudno Junction to meet with local Muslim leaders and representatives of the Muslim Council of Wales, and learn more about the centre.
Afterwards he said:
“It was a real pleasure to visit the Canolfan Iman Centre and I thank everyone for their extremely warm welcome.
“The scenes we saw throughout the UK in the summer were horrifying and my heart went out to, not only those directly impacted by the riots, but to the entire Muslim community.
“At the time I prayed for Muslim friends and neighbours throughout Wales and wanted to ensure that they knew they had support.
“Many involved in the protests call themselves patriots who argue that high levels of immigration have undermined British society in recent years.
“Yet a YouGov poll revealed that three-quarters of those surveyed said the rioters did not represent the views of Britain as a whole. Only 7% said they supported the violence.
“As a person of faith, I stand with all Muslims and condemn such hate and Islamophobia wherever it occurs.”
