Clwyd West MS Darren Millar attended a packed meeting in Kinmel Bay at the weekend to show his support for residents of Kinmel Bay’s Sandy Cove who were affected by flooding on the estate last week.
Adverse weather on April 9th led to residents of Sandy Cove being evacuated from their homes.
On Saturday, Sandy Cove Residents Association held a meeting to discuss the issue, which Darren attended and spoke at.
After listening to the residents’ concerns, Darren has made representations to Conwy County Borough Council and Welsh Water to try to secure urgent improvements.
Speaking after the meeting, Darren said:
“What happened last week at Sandy Cove was extremely frightening for all the residents affected. It is not the first time they have been flooded and they are understandably very concerned.
“There was standing room only at a packed meeting of the Sandy Cove Residents Association on Saturday following the latest episode, and I pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with the residents to listen to their concerns.
“The Golden Sands Holiday Park and a number of gardens were flooded after the overtopping of the sea defences as a result of a combination of Storm Pierrick, spring tides and poor drainage.
“Residents are demanding action to improve flood defences and drainage in the estate to prevent further problems.
“I have agreed to continue to support their efforts and have made representations to Conwy County Borough Council and Welsh Water to try to secure urgent improvements.”
Work on improving sea defences was scheduled to start last year but is yet to be commenced.
