Having visited both Chilly Cow Ice Cream and Moel Famau Donkeys last year, Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is delighted that both businesses have been selected as finalists in this year’s Countryside Alliance Awards.
Chilly Cow Ice Cream is a finalist in the Local Food/Drink category, whilst Moel Famau Donkeys is in the running in the Rural Enterprise category.
Voting is now open and the winners will be announced in Cardiff later this month. They will then go forward to compete against winners from across the country in the grand final.
Congratulating both businesses, Darren said:
“I was very pleased to visit both Chilly Cow Ice Cream and Moel Famau Donkeys last year and was extremely impressed by what both had to offer.
“The Countryside Alliance Awards celebrate rural businesses that go the extra mile, support their local economy and are the unsung heroes in every community. Both Chilly Cow Ice Cream and Moel Famau Donkeys certainly meet all these criteria and I was not surprised to hear they had made it to the finals.
“I congratulate them both and wish them every success in the finals. With voting now open, I also encourage people to give them their support.”
Established in 2014, Chilly Cow has gone from strength to strength each year and although still a small business, it is well established in North Wales and loved by locals and visitors alike.
The business is committed to the community and local trade, supporting local businesses and charities where possible and being an active member of The Clwydian Range Food and Drink Group – which promotes other local producers, businesses and our fantastic landscape and area.
Having resided on the slope of Moel Famau for three generations, lockdown provided the Davies family with a chance to pause and reflect on the importance that the countryside plays in people’s lives, and as a result they opened Moel Famau Donkeys (www.moelfamaudonkeys.co.uk).
Voting for the Countryside Alliance Awards opened on January 3rd and will close on Thursday January 19th. The winners will be announced at the Welsh Champions reception which is taking place on Tuesday 24 January at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay.
The winners of the Welsh final will go on to represent Wales at the House of Lords in the national champions’ reception in May.
