Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is delighted that Llanbenwch Caravan Park in his constituency is a finalist in the Countryside Alliance Awards, dubbed the ‘Rural Oscars’, and is encouraging people to vote for them.
The Awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food and farming, enterprise and heritage through small hard-working businesses. The Rural Oscars are now in their sixteenth year and have become the definitive rural business award to win. They are set apart from other award schemes because they are driven by public nomination, offering customers the chance to outline why their favourite businesses are worthy of national acclaim.
The Rural Oscars received thousands of nominations this year, so Llanbenwch Caravan Park, which is situated outside of Ruthin, has done extremely well to reach the regional final.
Darren said:
“The Countryside Alliance Awards celebrate those businesses that go the extra mile and are the cornerstone of our rural communities, and Sara and Gwion certainly do that at their caravan park. Reaching the regional finals is testament to the hard work and service they provide to their community.
“Llanbenwch Caravan Park, is a family run business with beautiful views overlooking the Clwydian Range and Moel Famau.
“It has been in the family for over 70 years, with Gwion’s grandparents having started the business in the 1950’s with static caravans and tents.
“Sara and Gwion moved to Llanbenwch in March 2015, and have progressed the business since that time, providing touring caravan and camping facilities, as well as an onsite café and shop.
“Having visited on a number of occasions, I know what an asset the holiday park is to the area. I wish Sara and Gwion the best of luck and encourage people to give them their support.”
Judging will take place via a questionnaire, an interview with one of the panel judges and an all-important public vote. The winners will be announced on the 27th of February 2024, at the Senedd. They will then go forward to compete against winners from across the country in the grand final.”
Countryside Alliance Awards Director Sarah Lee commented:
“We have been overwhelmed by nominations this year. The secret to the Rural Oscars’ popularity is that they honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services.
“They exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight. Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition.”
