Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has congratulated businesses in North Wales that have been successful in this year’s Countryside Alliance Awards.
Llanbenwch Caravan Park, near Ruthin, received high commendations in the Rural Enterprise category, whilst Llew Gwyn, Cerrigydrudion, were runners up in the Pub Award category.
The awards were held on February 27th at the Senedd.
Commenting, Darren said:
“Dubbed the ‘Rural Oscars’, the Countryside Alliance Awards honour a group of people who are passionate about their countryside and about providing quality goods, services and employment to rural communities and beyond.
“The businesses that attended the Senedd for the awards really are top of their game, so to even reach the finals is a remarkable achievement.
“I was delighted to see Llanbenwch Caravan Park and Llew Gwyn Pub up there with the very best.
“Llanbenwch Caravan Park, is a family run business with beautiful views overlooking the Clwydian Range and Moel Famau.
“It has been in the family for over 70 years, with Gwion’s grandparents having started the business in the 1950’s with static caravans and tents.
“Sara and Gwion moved to Llanbenwch in March 2015, and have progressed the business since that time, providing touring caravan and camping facilities, as well as an onsite café and shop.
“Having visited on a number of occasions, I know what an asset the holiday park is to the area and was confident of their success in these awards.”
Darren added:
“Pubs really do provide a key community hub, especially in rural areas like Cerrigydrudion, and Llew Gwyn is popular with locals and visitors.
“The pub was purchased in autumn 2021 with community ethos at its core. Since that time, it has gone from strength to strength and I am not surprised by its success in these awards. I would encourage anyone who is passing to pop in for a drink.
“Both businesses deserve to be extremely proud of their success in these awards and I extend my congratulations to them.
“They really are a credit to North Wales and I wish them well going forward.”
Rachel Evans, Director of the Countryside Alliance Wales, said:
"This evening was about celebrating our rural communities and the role that these businesses play in keeping them together – their continued promotion of Welsh produce, skills, and rural life deserve all the credit they can get.”
