Clwyd West MS Darren Millar has welcomed news that a football club in his constituency is one of 43 across Wales to benefit from funding from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport for grassroots facilities.
It was announced this week that 1,700 new and improved multi-sports grassroots facilities are being awarded a slice of £68 million from the UK Government, and Darren was pleased to hear that a project in Llannefydd is on the list.
Llannefydd Football Club are to receive a grant of £11,819.78 towards the total cost of £15,005.29 to pay for grass pitch maintenance.
Welcoming the news Darren said:
“£68 million has been committed by the UK Government in 2022 to 2023 to a range of projects that aim to deliver improved facilities in deprived areas, support multi-sport use and increase participation among currently under-represented groups, and I am delighted that Llannefydd Football Club are one of them.
“Encouraging people to participate in sport is vitally important, but in order to do that we need to ensure that the facilities that are available are of a high quality. This funding will enable Llannefydd Football Club to achieve this and I congratulate them on their successful application.”
The £68m funding comes from the latest allocations of a £300 million UK-wide capital investment between 2021 and 2025 from the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme to level up facilities across the whole of the UK.
In total, £111 million has been invested in 2021 to 2022 and 2022 to 2023 to improve grass and artificial pitches, changing rooms and floodlights to make a real difference to communities across the UK. A further £191 million of government funding over the next two years will provide spaces for people to get active, whatever their background and wherever they live.
