Clubs, schools, social services and other community organisations in Conwy and Denbighshire are being encouraged to apply to the Football Association of Wales’s PAWB Fund to help young people access regular football opportunities.
The FAW's PAWB fund is currently open for applications and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is keen that young people in the constituency benefit.
The fund can be applied for on behalf of any young player, to support and assist them with accessing football opportunities and/or equipment.
The application is open to 5 – 18 year-olds living in Wales and will be decided by a national panel that will use the application information to assess each case.
The following items are eligible for support through the fund:
- Grassroots Club Membership Fees
- Playing/Club Kit
- Football Boots
- Shin Pads
- Goalkeeper Gloves
- Sport Hijab
- Impairment Specific Equipment e.g. Sports Goggles
- Travel Costs e.g. Train, Bus or Taxi Costs to Training and Match Venues
The fund will support children and families in most need. The fund will support recipients on an annual basis to ensure they can access regular football opportunities.
The criteria to apply is as follows:
- The player must live in Wales.
- The player must be nominated by a Club/Organisation.
- The Club/Organisation must be based in Wales.
- The player must be 5 -18 years old.
- The player must play for a Club or Organisation in Wales.
- Schools in Wales can apply on behalf of a pupil or pupils (note: school team playing kits will not be funded).

“The PAWB Fund is an initiative to support families in particular that may find that cost is a barrier to participating within the game.
“Throughout 2023/24 the PAWB fund supported 339 families awarding upwards of £50,000 to contribute to make the sport more accessible.
“I know there are many youngsters in Clwyd West who would benefit from this fund and I therefore urge Clubs, schools, social services and other community organisations in Conwy and Denbighshire to apply.”
