According to a report by BBC Wales some A-level pupils are still waiting to receive textbooks which are yet to be printed – just three months before they sit their exams.

Students studying philosophy and ethics as part of a Welsh exam board syllabus for religious studies are affected and the WJEC exam body could not say how many pupils were affected.

Pupils began working towards their religious studies A-level exams in September 2017, but have been using copied notes and sheets prepared by their teachers while they wait for their textbooks to arrive.

Students, schools and councillors in North Wales have criticised the lengthy delay.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Secretary, Darren Millar AM said:

“This is completely unacceptable. The WJEC needs to rectify it immediately and Qualifications Wales need to provide an explanation and apology to parents and learners for not ensuring that resources are available.

“In what is already an incredibly stressful period for pupils, this will have not helped their studies and preparations for exams.

“The WJEC needs to come clean on how many students have been affected and outline how pupils will not be unduly punished for its incompetence.”
