Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar has welcomed assurances from the Welsh Government that the development of a new health centre for Colwyn Bay could still go ahead despite a moratorium on new primary healthcare centre developments.
Darren Millar last week expressed concern that the development could be at risk after the Welsh Government announced the moratorium, but he has since received a letter from the Health Minister, stating that projects already well advanced, such as the one in Colwyn Bay, will be dealt with outside the moratorium.
Darren said:
"Many people in Colwyn Bay were alarmed by the Welsh Government’s recent announcement of a moratorium on new primary care developments so this news will come as a relief.
"Having made representations to the Health Minister he has now advised that he is working with local health boards on a number of schemes, including the new Colwyn Bay development, which will be dealt with outside the moratorium under transitional arrangements.
"I was very concerned that the moratorium would jeopardise all the hard work that has gone into developing this new facility for the people of Colwyn Bay, so I am very encouraged by the Minister’s words.
"Colwyn Bay deserves 21st Century primary care facilities and it is therefore essential that the scheme progresses as soon as possible."
The new facility is being developed on the site of the former Conway Road Primary School, which closed last year, and will serve Patients who are currently registered with Rysseldene Surgery, on Conway Road, and Rhoslan Surgery, on Pwllycrochan Avenue
