In Hospice Care Week 2024, Clwyd West MS Darren Millar joined Hospices Cymru, Hospice UK and Marie Curie for a briefing event about the future of hospice and palliative care in Wales.
At the event, which was held in the Senedd yesterday, Darren met with members of the charities to hear about the valuable contribution the third sector makes to palliative and end of life care.
The opportunities and challenges facing charitable end of life care providers at a time of increasing need was discussed, as well as the important role third sector providers play in delivering specialist care and support in the community.
Speaking after the event, Darren said:
“I have long championed the incredible work that our hospices do and repeatedly called on the Welsh Government to support them.
“We are extremely fortunate to have three excellent hospices in North Wales but sadly they have been chronically underfunded for years - this needs to change.
“I was pleased to attend this briefing to discuss the issues facing our hospices and it was particularly good to meet with members of the charities to find out more about how the third sector is playing such a crucial part in the delivery of end of life and palliative care.
“I’ll continue to do all that I can to ensure our hospices receive the statutory funding that they need, so that they no longer have to depend on the generosity of the local community.”
