An Abergele based author is preparing for the launch this weekend of her first book, Elin’s Air, a wonderful depiction of life in rural Wales during the early 1900s.
Mother-of-four Emily Stanford’s book is a period novel which sees the world through the eyes of a child in rural Wales at the turn of the 20th Century.
It tells a tale of poverty, the struggle between workers and employers, a religious revival, and a discovery of gold.
It will be launched this Saturday at 11am at Festival Church, Chester.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, who has met the author and read the book, said:
“Elin’s Air is a beautiful book with amazing descriptions of the Welsh landscape and is a particularly useful tool to educate young and old about life in Wales in the early 1900s.
“Emily is a very talented writer and I wish her every success with her first novel; I’m sure it will be the first of many!”
Emily said:
“I have always loved writing and started writing books for children after my own children were born. The idea of writing more substantial novels came about as my children grew and began reading longer books, themselves. It revived my childhood love of reading.
“ I love words, especially for their musical and lyrical quality that can be used to convey atmosphere as well as tell a story. To write well seems to require a lot of wisdom. I am continually learning and I love the process.”
